Why fabric matters more than you think

Close up of a neutral Milana Label sleeper for babies.

When we design a piece, we do not begin with trend forecasts. We begin with fabric.

How it feels against skin. How it moves. How it performs after repeated washing. How it behaves over time.

Fabric is not a detail. It is the foundation.

Why we chose TENCEL™

TENCEL™ Lyocell is made from responsibly sourced wood pulp and produced through a closed-loop process that recovers and reuses water and solvents. It is breathable, smooth, and exceptionally gentle on sensitive skin.

But sustainability alone was not enough.

We chose it because it performs.

It offers improved resistance to pilling compared to many conventional knits. It helps regulate temperature. It drapes naturally while maintaining structure over time.

While some plant-based fabrics such as bamboo are also marketed as soft alternatives, not all follow the same controlled production model. We chose TENCEL™ because its manufacturing process is traceable and its performance is consistent.

We blend it with stretch to support freedom of movement without compromising recovery, allowing garments to maintain their shape through repeated wear and washing.

Organic cotton, done right

Organic cotton is expected in modern children's wear. It should be.

But organic alone does not guarantee durability, softness, or responsible processing.

We work with certified, vertically integrated partners who oversee knitting, dyeing, and finishing within one accountable system. This structure supports quality control and strengthens traceability throughout production.

Our ribbed and French terry styles are developed to balance comfort with resilience so they remain in rotation season after season.

What we do not use

We do not use flame retardants in our sleepwear. We avoid unnecessary chemical finishes. We prioritize skin-safe certifications and transparent sourcing.

Our organic cotton styles carry GOTS certification. Our TENCEL™ fabrics are produced within an OEKO-TEX certified facility.

Every material choice is intentional.

The foundation comes first

Fabric is the quiet decision that determines whether something becomes a favourite or a regret.

At Milana, we build from the fiber up.

Because fewer, better pieces begin with better foundations.
