Why fabric matters more than you think

When we design a piece, we do not begin with trend forecasts. We begin with fabric.

How it feels against skin. How it moves. How it changes with washing.

Fabric is not a detail. It is the foundation.

For our founder, Meagan, this is personal. As a neurodivergent adult, she knows how a scratchy seam or a stiff fabric can change the feel of an entire day. That sensitivity shapes how every Milana fabric is chosen.

Why we chose TENCEL™

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are made from wood pulp sourced from responsibly managed forests, using a closed-loop process that recovers and reuses the solvent. The result is a fabric that is breathable, smooth, and gentle on sensitive skin.

But how a fabric is made is only half of it. We chose it for how it feels.

It breathes naturally and manages moisture well, which helps little ones stay comfortable through the day. It drapes softly and moves with the body.

While some plant-based fabrics such as bamboo are also marketed as soft alternatives, not all follow the same controlled production model. We chose TENCEL™ because its manufacturing process is traceable and its feel is consistent.

We blend it with a touch of stretch so pieces move freely and keep their fit.

Organic cotton, done right

Organic cotton is expected in modern children's wear. It should be.

But organic alone does not guarantee softness or responsible processing.

We work with certified, vertically integrated partners who oversee knitting, dyeing, and finishing within one accountable system. This structure supports quality control and strengthens traceability throughout production.

Our rib and french terry fabrics are wash-tested in our manufacturer's accredited in-house lab for shrinkage and colourfastness, so we know how they behave before they reach your laundry.

What we do not use

We never use flame-retardant treatments, and we avoid chemical finishes that do not serve a clear purpose. Instead, we rely on certifications and transparent sourcing to guide our choices, which is why our organic cotton styles carry GOTS certification. Every material we use has a reason behind it.
